A kidney disease supplement protocol is necessary to address a range of important issues that include improving digestion, enhancing intestinal microflora, supplying organic bioavailable nutrients & antioxidants, providing direct & related organ support (in this case kidneys, liver and heart) and using cellular nutrition to help your animal attain their best health.
This supplement package for kidney disease consists of the supplements Daily Multi Plus, Kidney Tonic, Kidney Glandular and Biopreparation F3 Forte. You may follow the links to view the product pages for more information on these supplements for your dog or cat with renal failure as well as individual product ingredients. 1). Daily Multi Plus
This is the supplement that provides the enzymes and probiotics necessary for proper digestion and immune system health. It also provides organic, whole food nutrition to improve the overall health of your dog or cat.
How much should I give?
Provide 1/2 teaspoon in each meal per 30 lbs. Mix with water so it is not dry. Serving size does not have to be exact. Err on the side of more rather that less.
How long should I provide this supplement?
This supplement should be given with every meal for the life of your pet.
2). Kidney Tonic
This is a highly-researched herbal formula that supports both the heart and kidneys that are intimately connected. This supplement will help to increase the flow of oxygen and nutrient- rich blood that is so important to kidney health.
How much should I give?
Provide 1 ml per 25 lbs three times daily. Squirt directly into mouth by pulling out lower lip at corner of mouth. Do not tilt head back because your pet can breath some in. If this is difficult dosage can be placed in a small amount of special food or even main meals if necessary. It is best to give away from meals when possible. When your animal’s condition improves you may be able to reduce the frequency to two times daily. On the other hand if your animal does not respond as hoped increase the dosage by 50% three times daily.
How long should I provide this supplement?
Use daily for one month then go on a 5 days on 2 days off schedule. Use this schedule for the life of your animal. If your animal shows a decline on off days you may have to give only one day off weekly or even use daily if necessary depending on your pet’s condition.
3). Kidney Glandular
Kidney glandular tissue provides bio-identical nutrients that will help to improve the health of the kidneys in a safe and natural manner.
How much should I give?
Provide 1/8 - 1/4 tsp (approx. 200 - 400 mg) per 20 lbs daily. Divide equally between meals if convenient. For small pets where dividing the dosage would be difficult just place in one meal.
How long should I provide this supplement?
This supplement should be given for the life of your pet.
4). Biopreparation F3 Forte
This supplement is a highly researched blend of micro-algae that feeds cells on a cellular level. It crosses the digestive tract without the need for digestion and is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and retinal barrier. For these reasons it has an amazing ability to bring nutrients directly to kidney cells benefiting dogs with this condition tremendously.

Other Recommendations
Whole food diet high in moisture
Processed kibble pet foods are very dry, hard to digest and lack important nutrients for your dog or cat. We urge you to consider a raw food diet or home-prepared diet that will provide the nutrients and moisture your animal needs to keep their kidneys and urinary tract healthy. We also want to address a common misconception to provide a low-protein diet with kidney issues. Low-protein diets will eventually lead to cardiomyopathy, lean muscle loss, joint issues and susceptibility to infection. Providing a low-protein diet, especially to younger animals, will be subjecting them to poor health in the future. The primary time a low-protein/ phosphorous diet may be appropriate is during the final end phase of kidney failure. Read our articles on how to feed your dog or cat found in our Education section.
Whey Protein Isolate
This supplement is a great way to provide high biological value protein to your animal’s diet. It is also low in phosphorous and recommended for those with kidney issues. Provide one to two tablespoons per 25 lbs daily - more with kibble diets and less with high protein raw food diets.
Common Causes
Nothing “just happens”; there is always a catalyst. Flea and tick pesticide treatments are a major factor related to kidney damage as is over-vaccination and exposure to any chemicals whether they be from medications or household/lawn products. Please keep in mind that if your animal has lost nephrons (functional kidney units) they do not grow back and any future exposure to toxins will shorten your animal’s lifespan. Speak with your veterinarian about an exemption from future rabies vaccinations. We recommend avoiding all vaccinations and instead titer and also to avoid any exposure to topical flea and tick pesticide products including collars.
Please Note:
The majority of our supplements are basically herbs and whole foods, so a little more or less will not harm your animal. When determining the dosage estimate as best you can for the weight of your animal from our suggested serving sizes.
